Initial Ideas for Music Magazine

I want to create a music magazine which includes a range of different music, ranging from rock and indie to drum and bass, as these three genres are some of the most popular genres. I know a lot about these genres as well which will help me create my magazine as my knowledge with help me make my magazine successful, as i'll be able to input relevant information that readers will want and enjoy.

Artists i'd feature would be chase and status, The Killers, cage the elephant, the Black Keys.

Introduction to the main task

Now that i've finished the preliminary task i can go on to start my main course work for AS. This includes the front page, contents page and double page spread for my music magazine, using indesign and photoshop, along with other programs to help me create them. I will also have to take my own photos and not take ones that have been taken by other people. I'll also take inspiration from other magazines that are going to be relative to my own.

Evaluation of student magazine

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have used basic and steryotypical conventions used by other magazines. such as a clear masthead and coverlines, along with splash andpuffs that are clear as well.

2. How does your media product represent different social groups?

Key features of this magazine were tailored to fiot my specific group (students) rather then those of the unemployed or some one who is  a young adult. I achieved this by using a colour plallet that worked for both genders.

3.What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Anywhere around college and at regular places that students would visit like a cafe.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine is both genders aged 16-19, and are college students. The contents of the magazine appeal to both genders with film and game reviews, along with interviews of other students. The front cover and contents page both are suitable for both genders.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

I used vibrant colours to attract my audience along with some plain ones too, with both mixing with each other. Because of this i was able to create a effective front cover.. The photos i used were all with students in, appealing more to my target audience. Also advertised on the front cover was a ipad, a useful piece of techology that students crave to have.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

InDesign is a useful program to create a magazine cover, experimenting with different layers and colours seeing the different effects it has. It also fits pictures and re-sizes them perfectly without sacraficing quality. Photoshop also had positives like more effects to use on the photos as well desgin aspects.

Initial Ideas: Colour Pallet

The three main ideas for my colour pallet at the moment, but they might change depending on what feedback i receive.

Initial Idea

I've narrowed down the title of my magazine down to four. Turbo Tyro, Protege Post, Bash and Winning.

Protege Post is the most different, and unique compared to the others. It comes off more serious and mature then the others, aimed for a more serious student.

Turbo Tyro, is a mixture of serious and and jokey. Tyro being a another word for student, and turbo for a good use of alliteration to appeal to more active student perhaps.

Bash! is a different design compared to the others, being in a circular motion. this would catch the eye of students as it would stand out, making a statement as its not like everything else, and students like to feel different from everyone else.

The final option, Winning, again has a different design concept to catch the readers attention. The word is also the catchphrase of  popular television star, Charlie Sheen. This is more of a relaxed name for it, as its also not only a famous catchphrase but also that the students can "win" too at college and life as well.

Content
The content within it will have news about what's going on at college, as well as important dates such as exam dates, college do's and other similar events. It'll also have things to appeal to both sexes like fashion, new media, like movies and music. Finding offers around locally would be good too, like where cheap nice food is, as well as cheap booze. Revision techniques would also be helpful for students in a magazine.

House style
Using more mature colours would attract students as they are more mature now then and use them in a equal way as to attract both sexes to it, as not to be prejudice. Hopefully by using such techniques i will achieve my target audience, students aged 16-19. the colour pallet i'm thinking of using would be red, white and black, or green, blue and yellow (more of a happy vibe) or gold, silver, red and black.

Mode of Address
It'll be informal so that the students can relate to it, and they can feel more a art of it. Their attention will be more focused on it and they will enjoy it more.

Images and Pictures
The central image will be of  a student of either gender, doing something like clubbing, or hanging out with friends, but they'll look like they are enjoying themselves what ever they are doing. i'll use an range of shots, experimenting to see what works best before posting it. they'll be other smaller pictures to go with the coverlines to give the reader more of a insight of what to expect what's in the issue.

Price
The price has to be low for all students are tight on funds. Something from free, to fifty pence would be acceptable for something that they'll get a lot of use out of and be entertained by.
